The Mit logarhythms

EST. 1949

About

In the spring of 1949, a group of MIT students came together to form the Logarhythms, the very first a cappella group at MIT. Building upon the influence of barbershop tunes, the Logs quickly became a major musical force at MIT and the surrounding community.

In the late 1990s, the Logs made the transition from barbershop to modern a cappella by introducing vocal percussion and complex arrangements of modern songs. The Logs began performing in the greater Boston area and then launched tours around the country and world, reaching as far as London, California, Texas, Ohio, New York, Florida, Louisiana, and all over New England.

In 2019, the Logs celebrated their 70th anniversary as one of the country’s finest a cappella groups. Their tremendous success is attributed to their inimitable alumni, who have shaped this group into what it is today. The active members look to carry on their tradition of excellence.

Alumni

The successes of the active Logs would not be possible without the foundation and rich history of Logs alumni. The most important officers in the group, the Historians, seek to maintain interaction with the alumni, document the adventures of the active group, and uphold the traditions passed down over time.

Click below to visit the alumni page! There, you can find biographies of all members since 2000, a complete catalog of Logs discography, and more!

Reunions and Gatherings

In October of 2019, over 100 Logs, both active members and alumni, gathered at MIT to celebrate the group’s 70th anniversary. The event brought Logs from across generations together to share old stories and create new memories. Stay tuned for updates about the 75th anniversary!

Connect and Give

Join the alumni network! Reach out to the active group in the “Contact” section to be added to our LinkedIn group. The actives periodically send email updates to the alumni network, so please provide us your email to join in the conversation!

The active group travels, records music, and puts on the largest MIT student events on campus. Unfortunately, the money the Logs make from gigs is not normally enough to cover all of those expenses. If you are interested in making a gift to the group, please click the button below. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
